Hillyer, Robert
A Letter to Robert Frost and Others.
Alfred A. Knopf
New York and London, 1937

First Edition
Cloth Hardcover
Very Good

69 pgs. Very Good condition red cloth hardcover, minimal shelfwear consisting of slight fading of gilt lettering to spine and slight fading of cloth near bottom spine edge. Bookplate of Natalie Delnoce depicts an endearing monkish scholar. Ephemera-several clippings of individual poems by Hillyer are affixed at the corners or laid in at the rear free endpaper: "Light Snowfall", "General Gallieni" and "Incantation". Pulitzer-prize winning poet Robert Silliman Hillyer was known for the use of the heroic couplet and in this volume uses this poetic form to compose witty letters to poet Robert Frost, Harvard professor Charles Townsend Copeland, James Buell Munn, Peyton Randolph Campbell, Bernard Devoto, his son Stanley and Queen Nefertiti. Other works include "Theme and Variations" (about his war experiences), "The Collected Verse of Robert Hillyer" which won the 1934 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, "The Coming Forth by Day: An Anthology of Poems from the Egyptian Book of the Dead" (1923), the novel "Riverhead" (1932), and "In Pursuit of Poetry". #2264.
