xlix.524pgs. Good condition red cloth hardcover. Not dated [circa 1880-1920] Rubbing of cloth at edges and corners. Attractive bookplate of prior owner on front fixed endpaper. Front free endpaper is missing outer edge, several owner inscriptions remain. Paper over front hinge cracked but underlying mesh very sound. Text is clean and tight, some pages have not been opened. Frontis illustration and full plate illustrations throughout text by Chalon. Publisher's Notice: The text of the first Two Books reprinted from the first edition (1653) of Urquhart's translation. Footnotes initialled "M" are from the Maitland Club edition (1838), other footnotes by the translator Urquhart's translation of Book III appeared posthumosly in 1693 along with new editions of Book I and II. Motteux's translation of Books IV and V followed in 1708. Occasional passages omitted by Motteux as indicated have been restored from the 1738 copy edited by Ozell. One of those overall very comfortable books to hold in hand. #1935.
